Now I never thought I’d be reviewing a hair
brush on my blog, but when the darn thing costs you a bomb, you do it.
Also, this product seems to be really coveted, so I thought I’ll
just put in my experience and maybe if you’re really interested in buying it,
you can read a well rounded review before spending your $$$.
About the brushes:
Tangle Teezer Salon Elite is a professional detangling brush which will effortlessly banish tangles and knots from all hair types. Featuring patented, uniquely designed teeth which flex and flick as they glide through the hair, Tangle Teezer Salon Elite eliminates tangles and knots on contact and minimises breakage, damage and splitting often caused by tugging and pulling on the hair shaft
Tangle Teezer Compact Styler Detangling Brush is an innovative hairbrush
that is just too fabulous! Extremely cute in size and high on style, it can be
tucked into your bag and pulled out in lesser than a minute to recharge hair in
seconds.
I actually got the Tangle Teezer hair brushes
last year (30th June ’14) but they didn’t rock
my world. In fact, I questioned the quality standards of every blogger who
raved about them because they didn't detangle my knots at all. Then 9 months after I got them, they actually started to work
for me.
The first & only Tangle Teezer I purchased was the Gold Compact Styler; it made my hair frizzy, quite opposite to their hefty claims! When that didn't work out for me, I wrote to Tangle Teezer UK asking them if the brushes sold at Flipkart were genuine (because what other reason could there be for it not working out ?!?). They asked me to send them pictures of the packaging & then they confirmed that Flipkart does have authentic Tangle Teezer combs. Then I told them about my experience with the Compact Styler & they sent the following mail :
So they offered to send me a Salon Elite brush & I got to choose what I want and I chose Sweet Lilac, coz I love purples! For a few days, the Salon Elite tangle teezer did work out for me, I even posted this happy instagram picture :
But after those few days, we were back to square one, it made my hair frizzy... Again. I completely stopped using both brushes thereafter. So what changed 6 months ago? Well, this year my hair got pretty much unmanageable when it came to combing it out. My go-to comb was a wide toothed one and it seemed like the minute it combed out my knots, my hair would knot up again! Then one day I had a really huge knot that just wouldn’t detangle! So I pulled out my Tangle Teezer Salon Elite in frustration and voila, I was able to sort out my hair in 2-3min compared to 15min with the comb.
But there's a another small change that I made to my hair routine because of which the Tangle Teezer did not make my hair frizzy. I started using a hair serum after every hair wash. The product I currently use is the Ginerva Olive Oil Hair Cream, which is technically not a serum, but I use it that way. That particular day I posted the instagram pic, I had used the L'Oreal Liss Ultime serum, that's why my hair did not frizz up for the next few days & I was happy with the hair brush. Both the brushes I have work perfectly with my hair and detangle knots without making my hair frizzy. I can't say if they minimise breakage, damage and splitting like the claims, but they definitely don't tug on the hair. I do need to go over my hair with the brush multiple times to get all knots out.
The thing is, as of this month, I have not cut my hair since 20 months, so yes there’s a lot of split ends. I have dry, wavy, waist-length hair. I've never gotten any chemical treatments done. My hair gets knotted easily, that's why I find it unmanageable. Thanks to the Tangle Teezer combs, I can comb my hair quickly in peace both inside my home & while I'm on the go.
Packaging:
The Tangle Teezer Gold Rush has a really shiny packaging and it has got scratches because of being kept in my bag and carelessly elsewhere. Its not a classy gold color, it looks quite tacky IMO. Compact Stylers come with a cap/cover to protect the bristles of the comb. Since the comb is black, I can’t see when it gets dirty. It does not seem to have the concave design that Tangle Teezer boasts about.
Tangle Teezer Salon Elite doesn’t have any cap. I have the Sweet Lilac variant from the limited edition Sugared Almonds collection. Its a pastel lilac comb with baby pink bristles, the color is brighter than it looks in pictures. You can see the concave design on this brush. I can clearly see when the bristles get dirty & need to be washed. I like to wash my hair brushes as often as I wash my hair, i.e, 2 times a week. I use toothbrush, soap & water to clean them. The Compact Styler is 3/4th the size of the Salon Elite brush, but it feels significantly smaller while combing out hair.

I found that the bristles are sort of weak and the ones on the outer edge became slightly curved after 2 weeks of usage. This is definitely not something I expected from such a pricey comb.

Overall Verdict : 4/5
The Tangle Teezer Detangling Hair Brushes initially did not work out for me, that was remedied once I started using a serum on my hair after every wash. My hair gets knotted easily and truly feels unmanageable sometimes & I'm thankful that I have something that can resolve my problems in minutes. If you're wondering which Tangle Teezer variant you should opt for, I think that the larger brushes (Salon Elite & Original) will be better for long haired beauties and the shorter brushes (Compact Styler) will work for short haired beauties.
Have you tried the famous Tangle Teezer ? Do you feel like you need it now ?
I do not think this is a must have. If you don't face any problems combing out your hair every day you should definitely skip this. On the other hand, if you're someone who dreads combing out her hair simply because of the pain you'll face and the massive amount of time that will be wasted, this is an absolute must have! Not to mention, their customer care is really impeccable, they seem genuinely interested in solving our bad hair day problems. There are a couple of cheaper dupes in the market so you might want to try those out!
