Today I’m going to be talking about
one of my favorite winter body care products. My skin gets really dry during
winter, especially my legs. To top it off, I don’t have time to moisturize them
every day when I have to go to work, so they get dryer each day. I actually
don’t like applying thick body lotions on a day to day basis, I like the ones
that have a really thin texture, like The Body Shop Moringa Milk and the Parachute Summer Refresh lotion.
However, these thin textured lotions are not sufficient to hydrate my skin
during winters. So I purchased the Nivea In Shower Body Milk Skin Conditioner hoping it would be
a solution to this problem. I got the dry skin variant because I have dry skin.

#SkincareWeek : Made in India - Fabindia Papaya Face Pack Review
I’m an ardent face mask lover &
#SkincareWeek would be incomplete without the mention of any mask. Yesterday, I reviewed a hydrating one & today I’ll talk about a deep cleansing one.
I’ve always been curious to try out Fabindia
products because they have a large variety & are very affordable. I was in
search of some pocket-friendly mask I can recommend to college students so I
purchased the Fabindia Papaya Pack. Papaya has a lot of skin
benefits. My mom always tells me to apply papaya pulp as a face pack
but I avoid such DIYs because they are messy & I’m a lazy gal ;) Anyways, I
was hoping this mask would give my skin a glow, something papayas are well
known to do.
Fabindia Claims :
Made with papaya's extract and fuller's earth, this face pack deep cleanses and detoxifies the skin leaving it firm and fresh.
Made with papaya's extract and fuller's earth, this face pack deep cleanses and detoxifies the skin leaving it firm and fresh.
Ingredients:
Natural Spring Water, Papaya Extract, Glycerine,
SLES, Multani Mitti, Kaoline, Light Liquid Paraffin, Propyl Paraben, Methyl
Paraben, Phenoxy Ethanol, Fragrance, Colour.
It has key ingredients like Papaya Extract, Multani Mitti, Kaolin (misspelt) very high up in the ingredients list, which is good. However, it also contains parabens & mineral oil (liquid paraffin).
It has key ingredients like Papaya Extract, Multani Mitti, Kaolin (misspelt) very high up in the ingredients list, which is good. However, it also contains parabens & mineral oil (liquid paraffin).
My experience with Fabindia Papaya Face Pack :
My skin type : Currently, my skin is normal. It gets dry if I’m not regular with moisturizer (these months are cold after all!). I don’t have sensitive skin, however there are some products that give my skin allergic reactions.
The smell of this mask hits you like a wrecking
ball. I’m not kidding when I say it smells foul. The funny thing is that it
has ‘fragrance’ as one of the ingredients. LOL, in what world is such an awful
smell called fragrance ?!?!?!
The Fabindia Papaya face pack a typical clay mask but its very creamy in texture. However, it doesn't take longer to dry. I apply a generous amount to my damp face & keep it on for 30-35 min and then wash it off while letting the mask gently exfoliate my face. It didn't irritate my skin or break me out, initially it feels tingly on the corners of my nose, but that feeling goes away in 5min.
And speaking of efficacy, the first couple of times I used the Fabindia Papaya face pack, I didn't see any significant results. Then, I started to leave it on my face for longer (30-35min) and I saw the difference. It does the same thing as every kaolin clay mask - diminishes blemishes, makes skin clearer giving it that 'cleaned from within' glow, makes skin smoother. It the least drying from all the clay face masks I've used. It works especially wonderfully on my nose - clearing out blackheads and tiny bumps. My skin feels slightly tightened post removal of this mask. I always tend to exfoliate my face before using any face masks, I feel that it makes the mask more effective. But when I used the Fabindia Papaya face pack, I skipped the exfoliation & still saw results.
Product vs Price :
Price: Rs.225-275 / $4
Qty: 120ml / 4 oz
Shelf Life : 36M
Overall Verdict : 4/5
On one hand, this the Fabindia Papaya face pack has pretty good results and is very pocket friendly. However, it has a 'fragrance' that everybody won't like. Its a nice, affordable mask that does almost everything pricier masks do. It is super reasonably priced & that is reason enough to give it a try. Do check it out if you're a fan of clay masks. I like it but I will try other options in the market before I purchase this, simply because....you guessed it!

#SkincareWeek : Claims vs Results - L'Oreal Paris Hydra Fresh Mask In Lotion Review
Company
Claims :
Price vs Product :
This first ever mask-grade hydrating lotion is infused with the
finest French Grape Seed Extract, a powerful antioxidant that helps neutralize
free radicals to protect your skin against the dulling and damaging effects of
external aggressors. Double Hyaluronic Acid also boosts hydration so skin is
quenched, becomes softer and more radiant.
Suitable for Normal to Dry skin.
My Experience with Hydra Fresh Mask In Lotion:
My skin type
: Currently, my skin is normal. It gets dry if I’m not regular with moisturizer
(these months are cold after all!). I don’t have sensitive skin, however there
are some products that give my skin allergic reactions.
L'Oreal
Paris Hydra Fresh Mask In Lotion claims to be ‘energizing & hydrating’ and boasts
of some ingredients like Grape Polyphenols, French Spa Water (like Thermal Spa waters) & Double Hyaluronic Acid(HA). Because of these claims, I expected
it to give an intense moisture boost to my skin.
The L’Oreal Hydra Fresh Mask In Lotion can
be used two ways – as a face lotion & as a face mask. As a lotion I find it
heavier on my skin than my current goto product– Za total hydration milky moisturizer. This is the hydrating mask I had
mentioned in the Za post. I used this mostly as a mask because I wanted to get
rid of the dry patches I had back then quickly.
I applied
this product as an overnight mask and the next morning I saw that my dry
patches were hydrated & they looked less obvious. They weren’t completely
gone though. A few days the dry patches returned. This mask + Za moisturizer
together have helped my get rid of dry patches. It has not broken me out
inspite of using it overnight several times.
This mask
doesn’t do anything more – I expected my skin to be plump & glowy, like the
effects I got from THEFACESHOP moisturizing sheet mask. L’Oreal claims that
this gives you ‘watery, bouncy & radiant skin instantly’. But there’s no radiance or visible plumping,
however skin does feel hydrated. It can also be mixed in with your foundation
(for ex the Lakme Absolute White Intense foundation) in cooler seasons. It has a runny
texture and looks exactly like the mask fluid of THEFACESHOP mask. I won’t
recommend mixing it with your foundation if you live in a humid place because
it feels heavy on the skin.
I seriously
don’t like the packaging of the L'Oreal Paris Hydra Fresh Mask In Lotion indian
version, it is too bulky ! The Singapore version is so pretty! This product has a light
fragrance. Since it contains ingredients like Double HA, it should help in
anti-ageing. I’m in my early 20s so I can’t comment on any anti-ageing effects
as I don’t have any signs of ageing.
Price vs Product :
Price : Rs.425 / $6.4
Qty : 200ml / 6.7 oz
Shelf Life : 12 months
Overall Verdict : 3.5 / 5
In my humble
opinion, the L'Oreal Paris Hydra Fresh Mask In Lotion, has a lot more claims
than results. I didn’t experience any radiance or bouncy skin. It didn’t make
my skin look plump or well hydrated, but it did hydrate my skin, get it ? I
still use it every few days (as I have still not purchased a night cream) to
moisturize my skin but I do wish it imparted a glow. From price pov, its not
very pricey for the quantity & you only need a little bit with every use so
the bottle lasts a long time. I’d recommend it if you’re on a budget & need
a mask that moisturizes your skin.

#SkincareWeek: From the House of Shiseido, Za India Total Hydration Milky Moisturizer Review
I’ve always wanted to try out Za products
and with the launch of the new Total Hydration range in soft pink packaging, I
couldn’t resist!
Company
Claims:
- This moisturizer relieves stickiness & thoroughly replenishes skin's moisture giving it a clarified glow and vibrancy.
- Dewy & supply texture
- For skin that tends to feel flaky yet greasy
- Amino mineral complex, Sebum holding power, Prism Enhancer(????),Vitamin B Derivative
- Dermatologist tested, non clogging to pores.
My Experience :
My skin type : Currently, my skin is normal. It
gets dry if I’m not regular with moisturizer (these months are cold after
all!). I don’t have sensitive skin, however there are some products that give
my skin allergic reactions.
Packaging : The soft pink bottle gives the Za Total Hydration Milky moisturizer a
nice feminine touch. I wish the bottle had a pump opening instead. After I get the product out on my palm,
some of it is around the mouth of the bottle which is very messy! Za has even
added instructions to wipe the mouth of the bottle clean after every use which
is cumbersome if you use the moisturizer multiples times everyday.
Fragrance : It has a mild fragrance that disappears once the moisturizer sinks into your skin
Texture : Like the name suggests, it’s a milky moisturizer
& has a very runny consistency. It easily sinks into my skin & doesn’t
leave it sticky. Its very lightweight on my skin; it feels like nothing is on. I like to layer it on the drier areas of my face
& it doesn’t feel heavy after layering either.
Effects :
I have been
using the Za Total Hydration Milky Moisturizer as regularly as I can since the last week of June. At that time I had
dry patches which I was not able to get rid of (I mentioned this in the THEFACESHOP Mango Sheet Mask Review post). I had been using another hydrating mask too but
it gave temporary results- my dry patches would return after a few days. I
realised that probably the moisturizers I was using were not upto the mark so I
switched to this Za one and it has given me significant results. My dry patches
have completely gone & my skin looks visibly hydrated. My skin has always
been soft (even when its dry) so I can’t comment on how much softer it will
make your skin.
I love using this moisturizer a lot & I use it in my night
routine too. However, now that is getting colder, I will need something thicker
for night time. It wears well under makeup too. One significant con is that it
contains no SPF/PA protection & this is something missing from the entire
Total Hydration range. I haven’t faced any problems wearing my sunscreen over
it because both products are lightweight so they don’t feel heavy on my skin. Also, it contains parabens. I haven't experienced any allergy (like breakouts) since I started using it.
I like the Za Total Hydration Milky Moisturizer a lot over my previous day moisturizer, the
Chambor Hydra Essential Day Moisturizer, that one contained a lot of alcohol which made my skin look dull in
the long run. The Za one is cheaper too!
Overall Verdict : 4/5
I absolutely love this product & recommend it to
beauties with normal skin like me. I think dry skinned beauties might also like
it and combination-oily skinned beauties can opt for the Za Total Hydration Amino Mineral Refreshing Gel. Za has mentioned that it will suit skin that is flaky yet greasy i.e skin that gets oily easily because it is dehydrated. Since it contains parabens & doesn’t give
you sun protection, it isn’t the most appealing product in the market,
therefore it doesn’t get a five rating. That said, I’m happy with it- it fulfills the claims of replenishing skin's moisture. I’m
eyeing the Za Total Hydration Deep Moist Cream for my night routine!

#SkincareWeek - Miracle Water or Overhyped Water in a Can ? Vichy Thermal Spa Water Review
[UPDATE: As of now, its been two months & I have not broken out during my periods & I think it is because of using this product around my time of the month ♥ ]
The thing about thermal spring waters
is that they are just mineral water. Its probably the mineral water you can buy
by the bottle at your local supermarket, but it is very pricey
compared to those.
The Vichy Thermal Spa Water claims to comfort & refresh sensitive skin &
soothe irritation due to dryness. It didn’t really do that for me. I
decided to do a bit of googling about it & I came across this informative post by Escentual. Do read it if you ever plan to buy an aerosol can of water from French pharmacy
brands. Here’s an excerpt from the article about the Vichy
Thermal Spa Water:
It’s so beneficial to skin that it can even be used as a treatment for troubled skin and anti-aging in its own right! According to Vichy, an astonishing fifteen clinical studies have proven the skin health benefits of the thermal spa water, particularly its soothing and fortifying properties, thanks to a unique blend of anti-oxidants and skin regenerating minerals infused into the water from the core of the Auvergne magma rocks it’s filtered through that can’t be replicated by science. After frequent use skin is placated and skin tolerance is improved. This particular water spray would benefit all skin-types for a whole spectrum of skin ailments or just for a skin pick-me-up, but it would unquestionably perform especially well alongside a Vichy heavy skincare regime to reinforce the qualities of the wondrous water present in all Vichy products.
The Face Shop Mango Seed Moisturizing Sheet Mask Review
You know what I find really hard to do? Hydrate my face! Now
days I find my skin getting dry patches (gasp!). I blame it on travel, work & the changing weather. All the AC is taking a toll on my skin & the onset of pre monsoons has left me unprepared to tackle the cooler weather. When I am at home, I use the opportunity to try
out some of the hydrating face masks I have, that’s why I’ve been using
TheFaceShop Mango Seed mask. I’ve used it four times so far and I’m ready to
review it.

Important facts about sun protection // Neutrogena Dry Touch Sunblock, Body Mist Sunscreen Review
Let’s talk SUNSCREENS, they're only the most
important skin care product. That’s why this post has been on my mind ever
since the hot summer season started. As you can see from the pictures, I
actually have two sets of sunscreens, one is empty & the other is new. If
its not broke, why fix it right? Both these sunscreens have worked well for me
when I first used them so I have repurchased them.
Some important points about sunscreens:
Fact
1: UV rays that reach our atmosphere are of 2
types-UVA & UVB. UVB rays cause sunburns & skin cancer. SPFs measure only
UVB protection. Any SPF 15 product filters out 93% of the UVB , SPF 30 filters
out 97%, & SPF 45 filters out 98% of UVB rays. The best UVB protection you
can offer your skin is SPF30.
Fact
2: UVA rays may also cause skin cancer. But the
amount of protection against UVA rays cannot be measured by SPF. Presence of
ingredients like zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, avobenzone, ecamsule, and
oxybenzone indicate UVA protection. Sunscreens with both UVA & UVB
protection could be labeled multi spectrum, broad spectrum, or UVA/UVB
protection. PA+ is a Japanese UVA rating (‘+’ is the lowest rating & ‘+++’
is the highest).
Fact
3: SPF in
makeup & skincare only protects you from UVB rays. In order to protect your
skin from UVA rays, its mandatory to use a sunscreen having ingredients
mentioned in Fact 2. To quote WebMD, “Ultra-protective
makeup is a boon for skin. But think of it as the Robin to your sunscreen's
Batman — a dynamic duo stronger together than either is alone”.
Fact
4: Sunblock is a physical kind of protective lotion
containing both organic and non-organic ingredients that act as a barrier
between your skin and UV rays by reflecting or scattering them. Sunscreen is
the chemical kind that penetrates the skin and absorbs the UV rays before they
reach the protective outer epidermis layer of your skin & damage it.
When you’re looking for a sunscreen in
India, go for one that has an Sun Protection Factor(SPF) of 30 or higher and is
broad spectrum(i.e both UVA & UVB protection). Why? See Fact 1 above. For
me, the sunscreens that met all the criteria are the Neutrogena Dry Touch ones.
There are many more
in the market but currently these two are the only ones
that give you a bang for your buck.
The Neutrogena Dry-Touch technology claims to leave a clean, lightweight,
non-shiny finish. Neutrogena Dry Touch sunscreens are also non-comedogenic
(don’t clog pores), oil free & PABA(Para-AminoBenzoic Acid) free. They also
have claims such as ‘broad spectrum’
(mentioned in Fact 2) and ‘helioplex’.
Helioplex is stabilized version of Avobenzone
(mentioned in Fact 2), which deflects a wider range of UVA rays than other
anti-UVA ingredients. It is stabilized so that it doesn’t degrade in sunlight
i.e its staying power is extended. These
sunscreens need to be applied 15-30mins before sun exposure!

Review:
I've been using this since a long time, I had even mentioned it in a summer skin care post last year.I use this sunblock primarily for my face
& feet. It’s a white colored creamy product, inspite of being ‘dry touch’, it spreads easily on
the skin. However it’s not comfortable to spread all over the body unless I’ve
properly moisturized, and it feels too heavy on my body post moisturization (that’s
why I use the sunscreen reviewed below) It claims to give a ‘non-shiny’ finish, however, after
application my skin does look slightly shiny, even after powdering on top. But
it doesn’t feel greasy on the skin. It
needs to be applied 15-30mins before going out in the sun. It’s also waterproof, sweat proof & resists rub
off. I can’t attest to the waterproof claims but I do think it resists rub
offs. I always buy the small size(30mls) and carry it in my purse as well to
reapply when I’m outside for longer durations. It does protect my skin from
tanning & I would definitely recommend this product to everyone having
normal to oily skin type.
Neutrogena
Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunscreen SPF 30:
Price:
Rs.675 ($10.6)
Qty:
141g (5 fl.oz)
Active
Ingredients: Avobenzone,
homosalate, octisalate, octocrylene, oxybenzone
Review:
I use this spray-type of sunscreen only for
my body. I like using it for the whole body because it’s very convenient and
doesn’t feel heavy on the skin when used post moisturization. One thing that
I’m not too fond of is that it makes my skin look shiny post application. Shiny
skin looks good if you have waxed your arms. If you haven’t, it’s not an
appealing look. It can make the skin really greasy too, if you apply alot. But this is something I
have to overlook because of the ease of use. I do wish this bottle was available in
smaller sizes so that I can always carry one around in my purse & reapply
whenever I’m outside for longer durations. According to the instructions, once
you spray this onto your skin, you do have to rub it in. I haven’t used this on
my face, my sister tried it a couple of times on her face & it broke her
out so I would not recommend it. As for sun-protection, I think it has
prevented my arms & legs from tanning & if used liberally it protects my feet
from tanning but not for long, which is why I use the sunscreen mentioned above. It is water
resistant for 80min. This is the cheapest sunscreen spray in the Indian
market & I definitely recommend everyone to try it out at least once.
Now, coming to another important fact about
sunscreen-
Fact
5: You need to apply at least a 1/4th tea-spoon
sized amount on the face & neck each for the sunscreen to be effective. If
you’re using a spray, it should be applied until an even sheen appears on the
skin. Sunscreen should always be the
final step of your skincare/makeup routine, because anything applied over your
sunblock will reduce its effectiveness. ANY sunscreen needs to be reapplied
every two hours, especially after swimming or heavy perspiration or outdoor
activities.
Before you rate a sunscreen for not
working, make sure you’re using it properly girls!
I would suggest you to try out at least one
of these sunscreens, and definitely buy them online because its always cheaper
than buying at the store! Let me know your favorite sunscreens in the comments!

Just Herbs has gained a lot of popularity
in 2014, and that is the reason why I decided to try out some of their
products. I placed my order from the Just Herbs website and I had to pay Rs.50
for shipping since my order did not meet the minimum amount for free shipping.
I got my order delivered to Mumbai in 6 days. Hope you don’t mind the lengthy
post, sorry!
Apart from their website, you can find Just
Herbs products at Flipkart, Nykaa, Amazon, Luxola . Their products are all natural ayurvedic pdts, f ree from petrochemicals, parabens, SLS/SLES PEG/PPG, Genetically modified ingredients(GMO) and other synthetic ingredients
You can WhatsApp Just Herbs on +91 8054948180 to get a consultation on what products you need to use. That's how they operate actually, the treatments are bespoke according to your skin type. However, I don't think that's of much use because they recommended me the same products when my skin was combination & when it was normal. I also told them that I do not have any acne problems, still they recommended me products like "anti blemish gel" both times ! That's why I decided to ignore their consultation & buy products I needed :)

Review: When I received this cleanser, a lot of product had leaked out. After one month of usage,
its pump had completely broken. Also, the stickers on its body have been
disintegrating as you can see from the pics, which makes it incredibly
inconvenient to use. It smells like fevicol to me, but not as strong. It’s a slightly
thick gel cleanser. At first, I felt its just like any normal cleanser. Then after
2 months of using this, I had to use a non-herbal cleanser, the L’Oreal Hydra Fresh one once and
I could realize the difference. Silksplash is very very gentle compared to
other cleansers. It doesn’t make the skin feel dry or irritated post wash. I use
it to cleanse my face & on the days when I wear makeup, I use to get rid of the
residue of makeup cleanser. It does not prevent my skin from getting pimples.
Rating: 3/5
Because of the bad quality of
packaging I won’t be repurchasing it, but if you’re in search of a mild
cleanser, this is a good option to try out.

Review: I bought this oil because I am
suffering from heavy hairfall, also the texture of my hair had gotten quite dry
and rough. I did not expect this to perform miracles, but I hoped that it would
do either of the two- reduce hair fall or improve hair condition. Unfortunately,
it was not able to do either. I warmed this up before use as per the
instructions & applied it to my scalp. Its not very thick, and after
heating, it feels thinner. Post washing, my hair felt little drier than before. It did not promote hair growth either. After using it 6-7 times for a month I was not happy with the results so I gave
it to my sister who has little hairfall. It did not help her either. Overall, I
am not impressed with this product, it literally does nothing for the hair. It does
not “Deep Condition” as per claims.
Rating: 1/5
Pricey, ineffective, not
recommended.

Review: I received a sample size of this product
with my purchase. Like all herbal shampoos, it is thick. I have been using it
for a month and a half & I am not impressed. It leaves my hair drier than
before & does not get rid of any hair oil applied. I have applied it 3-4 times during a
hair wash still it did not remove the hair oil, 50% of the oil was still there
on my hair.

Review: I received a sample size of this
product with my purchase. It’s a mud mask as you can see and dries very
quickly on the face. I’d recommend working on one area of the face at a time. It has a lovely rose scent. It
cleans up the face, leaves it soft and gives a soft glow for few hours. I haven’t noticed any
tan reduction, but I couldn’t use it every week because its too drying. Dry patches
are noticeable after washing this mask off. It makes blemishes drier &
smaller in appearance, but doesn't get rid of them. My skin drinks up moisturizer
quickly post this mask
Rating: 4/5
Effective for deep cleaning the
skin, though not as good as other masks that I’ve used. Still, its good for the
price it retails at. Since its very drying & meant for tan removal, its
best not to use it much in winters. Recommended, if you’re in need of an all-natural,
deep cleansing mask.
*I always
exfoliate my face for 5 min before applying a face mask. I use a scrub from St.Ives.
I really appreciate Just Herbs' efforts to be completely natural. Although some of their products are lackluster, it is common in any brand! I would really love it if they revamped their packaging, that is the only thing preventing me from repurchasing their products or trying any new ones. They claim to be a luxury brand & therefore I feel that packaging plays a major role. I'm also not thrilled about them for shoving products & not providing a proper consultation, hope they'll improve that aspect as well!
