I’ve never tried any fancy hair oils for my hair. I always feel they’re all talk with nothing
to show. I had been thinking of getting argan oil though, but its hard to find
that in India at a reasonable price. While I was contemplating buying the L’Oreal
Hair Spa oil, L’Oreal India released this Extraordinary oil featuring 6 nutritive
oils. Since its more easier to get because it doesn’t require me to go to a L’Oreal
Salon, I picked it up. Its priced lesser than the Hair Spa oils and claims to
have more nutritive benefits.

it? Read on to find out if it can.
My take on L'Oreal 6 Oil Nourish Extraordinary Oil:
My hair type: mildly oily scalp, dry ends, naturally
shiny and strong. Naturally straight as well, but its wavy on many days. My hair
is somewhere between thick and thin.
Let me begin this review by saying that I was most skeptical of this oil. First of all I’m a firm believer in one over many. For example, I
would have preferred a hair oil having a single ingredient rather than many –too
many cooks spoil the broth. Secondly, its priced really reasonably for a L’Oreal
product. But L’Oreal has always wowed me with its hair products so I went for
this one. The oil is housed in a bronzy-gold glass bottle, the oil itself is
colorless.
The L’Oreal Extraordinary Oil is a thin oil, which means it
won’t make your hair greasy. Before this, all oils I’ve used are the thick, greasy
types. Its really extraordinary that something that contains 6 oils could feel
so weightless on the hair. I’ve applied it to my hair ends just after washing
my hair and it kinda disappears into the ends, leaving them soft. However, it
is relatively heavier on the scalp than the hair, so I avoid putting it on my
scalp unless I need to wash my hair. Because of its thin texture, you can even
use it as a styling product.
Since its so thin, one might be compelled to keep piling it
on till you get that dense feeling to your hair. But there’s no need to waste
the oil by applying excess unnecessarily. I follow these steps:
- Apply a single layer to the scalp and entire hair from roots to end.
- Check if there are any dry areas In your hair even after one layer of oil, and apply another layer there. This layer should be lighter than the first. My hair is really dry these days so I usually have to apply the oil again, but lightly on half of my hair upto the ends
- If any dry areas are still there you can add another light layer of oil. For me it’s the ends.
Even after all this my hair doesn’t feel greasy. It definitely
looks like I have oil on because of my scalp, it gets oily soon. Comparing it
to thick oils I’ll say that those oils make my face oily soon, the oil slowly
transfers to the face, with this one it doesn’t. I must add that the longer you let the oil stay on your hair, the better the results will be. Washing it off just after an hour of applying it will not show you much benefits. Apply it for atleast 3-4 hours before washing.
I've been using this oil on and off for a month now.
Lets see if the L’Oreal Extraordinary Hair Oil could match its claims.
- Strong: Unfortunately I can’t comment on this because I don’t face any hairfall problems. I’ve been on meds since two months because of illness and that led to hairfall, but now that the meds have stopped my hair is back to its old self. I don’t think that an oil could cure hairfall due to meds so its fine that this didn’t help there.
- Smooth: Yes! Most definitely! My hair is smoother when I use this, whether its before hair wash or after it.
- Shiny: I do have naturally glossy hair, but I’m guessing L’Oreal means that if you apply it to your hair it makes your hair shiny while it is still on your hair.
- Soft: This is the best part, using this on the ends of my hair keeps them soft. It also makes my entire hair softer. Earlier, after hair wash my hair needed a serum to make it soft, smooth and manageable. Now it doesn’t.
- Thick: I haven’t seen any difference in volume to my hair, but I will need to use Extraordinary Oil for longer to verify this claim.
- Manageable: It’s a really strange thing but yeah, when I use this oil, my hair is more manageable, compared to when I don’t use it. Like I mentioned before, I need to apply a serum to my hair after washing them, to keep them smooth and manageable, but when I use this oil I can skip serum for sure! I can also postpone my next hair wash by a day, because of Extraordinary Oil.
For me, it satisfies 3 out of 6 claims after a short term use.
That is definitely a win for me. With long term use, I hope I can reap the
benefits of the “thick” claims because I’d really like to have thicker hair.
The fragrance is kinda strong smell, so do check that out at
the store itself. Also, the hair oil claims to be suitable for all hair types,
it makes my dry hair feel like “normal hair” but I can’t saw how it will fare
on hair that is brittle and thinning. Its supposed to compliment your existing
routine, it can’t be a solution to all your problems, so don’t skip your
regular shampoos, conditioners and masks.
Summing up the review:
Pros:
- Makes hair soft, smooth & manageable
- Its very thin, doesn’t weigh down hair
- Can skip serum after hair wash
- Has six nutritive oils
- Suitable for all hairtypes
- Economical
- Easily available
Cons:
- Except for the smell, which may offend some I can’t think of any. When the product is really good I tend to ignore such things :P
Overall Verdict: 4.5/5
The rating will probably increase with regular use, but for
now I think this is the right score. I definitely recommend L’Oreal 6 Oil
Nourish Extraordinary Hair Oil to anyone on the lookout for a new hair oil. It
is thin and lightweight and is great for summers when you don’t want too much
product on your hair because sweat and humidity may make it greasy. It works
well on my dry hair and will be great for normal hair as well. I can skip serum
after a hair wash because this provides me with same benefits – soft, smooth
and manageable hair. Definitely worth trying!
Looks like a great hair oil at an affordable price tag.. :D..
