I have not had the best (to say the least) experience with
makeup removers in the past. Makeup remover is a vital part of my cleansing
routine because once you start wearing makeup, you’ll need some cleanser which
is powerful enough to take off all those long wearing products yet gentle
enough to not harm your skin in the process. Because of these high demands, I
don’t mind spending a bit more this part of my skincare, however, even expensive brands can fail to fulfil such basic requirements. I was on the hunt of a good
makeup remover and along the same time, the Maybelline Clean Express Makeup Remover had just been introduced in the market. I’ve almost always had a good
experience with Maybelline, also the attractive packaging lured me to try out
this makeup remover. I have tried the old Maybelline remover but I found it
very oily so I was hoping this one would be better.

My Experience:
Packaging:
The Maybelline Clean Express Makeup Remover comes
in a small plastic bottle. Its quite convenient to store or carry this one
around because of its smallish size and lightweight. The mouth of the bottle
has a stopper and a hole to dispense out the makeup remover. I prefer a cleaner
and fool proof mechanism like a pump, but so far the bottle has not leaked, so
I have no complains about it. I think the exterior is quite cute.
How it works:
The makeup remover is biphased. It contains two liquids, one
is oil-based and the other is water-based. You can clearly see the line of
demarcation between the two liquids in the first picture below. Before you use
this, you have to shake the bottle so that the liquids mix up. Once they mix,
it should look like the next picture and now you can use it. When the liquids
settle again, you’ll have to shake the bottle and mix them up once more.
Texture and consistency:
I found the remover to be
lightweight and the consistency is little watery. Because of this, you may end
up taking more than required and it has happened to me a couple of times.
After usage:
This makeup remover does not sting or hurt my eyes at all. I found that if the right amount is used, it doesn’t leave
any residue on my skin. Most removers leave a slight oily film behind but this
one left nothing. Infact I could get away without washing my face also(which I
didn’t, obviously). This is one thing that I love about this remover. The
previous Maybelline Makeup Remover left my eye area feeling very oily. If I use too much of this one,
as in more than needed, it leaves an oily residue behind.
Coming to its efficacy in removing makeup, it removed long
wearing makeup like mascaras, kajals, concealers and even the brightest
lipsticks. I use Maybelline waterproof mascaras and they are some of the
toughest mascaras to get rid off, but with this remover, they melt of easily.
What I didn’t like was that it doesn’t completely get rid of the shimmer from
shimmery eye shadows. A lot of the eye shadows I use have a shimmery finish and
this remover gets rid of the color, but shimmery specks are still there around
my eye and they don’t go even with multiple swipes.
Maybelline claims that this moisturises lids and lashes but I don't think it does anything in that aspect.
Demo:
On the Eye
Here I have used a couple of shimmery shadows and some long wearing liners. As you can see
it gets rid of the shadows and kajals in the first few swipes. The purple liner
took a couple of swipes to get rid of. Although it has not left any shimmer or
glitter on my hand, it does leave that around my eye.
On the Lip
I took out swatches some of my concealers and my brightest
lipsticks here. The first three on the left are 1 corrector and 2 concealers
and the rest are lipsticks. It took a couple of swipes to get rid of all of
them but one was still left even after multiple swipes. That’s a Rimmel lipstick which isn’t so long wearing on my lips.
Overall Verdict: 3.5/5
I’m still on the fence about this one. I love that it
doesn’t leave behind any oiliness on me and can get rid of my daily wear makeup
easily. However, for some reason it doesn’t get rid of the shimmer around my eye from some
eye shadows and that’s a disappointment for me. For daily use, I think this makeup remover is miles ahead of the other makeup removers I've used till date. With the previous Maybelline remover I faced the problem of it being to oily, but this one doesn't give me any such problems.
