The Makeup
Revolution London Iconic 1 Redemption palette was on my wishlist for a long
time because I assumed it would be the dupe of the famous Naked palette - the
original one that started dozens of alternatives after its introduction. I had
a hard time getting the Iconic 1
during sales because it always got sold out first. Then one day I got lucky
& was able to grab it at half-off…score !
The Iconic 1 palette is
supposedly a dupe of the Naked 1, a warm toned nude palette. See the side-by-side swatches in this video.
I’m a fan of cooler colors more than warmer ones because I think they look better on me. Still, I wanted a to try out the warm nudes of the Naked palette so I decided to buy this Iconic palette from Makeup Revolution London. Honestly, I think I was a bit wrong about warm colors not looking as good on me, the golds & bronze colors of the Iconic 1 look quite good on me too ! I also feel that the summer season is a great time to dive into warmer bronze & gold eye shadow colors...
Ingredients:
The Iconic
1 comes with 12 shades. There are 2 shades that I thought were matte, but
when I swatched them, they seemed to have a satiny finish. There are two satiny
matte shades in the first half; the darker one is useful for blending out in
the crease, the lighter one is of little use to me.
The 1st
shade is supposed to be a matte baby
pink, but it goes white against my skintone, its suitable for brow
highlight.
The 2nd
shade is supposed to be a shimmery
baby pink and that is also white against my skin, however it does look like
a light pink when applied to the tear duct area.
The 3rd
shade is the light satiny brown
shade I talked about earlier, it’s a taupe shade. It will be of more use on
fairer skintones.
The 4th
shade is a light brown with metallic
finish.
The 5th
shade is a brown that is darker
than the 3rd shade and useful for crease blending.
The 6th
shade is a gorgeous true gold
color with metallic finish.
The 7th
shade is an antique gold. If you’re
deeper skinned, the difference between shades 6 & 7 may not be very
distinguishable without a good base.
The 8th
shade is a deep black-brown with
metallic finish, though it didn’t
swatch well, it works decently to deepen outer-V area or smoke out the lash
line.
The 9th
shade is a pinky brown color but
it has weak pigmentation and doesn’t translate well on my lids. Probably it
will show up better on fairer skin.
The 10th
shade is quite unique. It’s a deep
brown with metallic finish but it
also seems to have hints of green in it
(against my skin). This shade is a bit powdery.
The 11th
shade is a black with glitter shot
through it. This one is powdery and has fallout.
The 12th
shade is a gunmetal grey with
metallic finish. This shade is an odd man out in the palette! I love the shade
as is, but I can’t think of a way to use it with the other shades. This is also
an exact dupe for the shade Glitz of Sleek Oh So Special Palette.
You definitely need an eye shadow base with this
palette, especially if you’re deeper skinned. Some of the colors don’t show up
evenly & a base will help rectify that.
Product
vs Price:
Price: Rs.1050 / $15.8
Qty : 14g
Shelf Life : 12 months
Final
Verdict : 4/5
The Iconic 1 palette is pretty similar to the
Iconic 3 that I have tried before where some shades will be best for just
fairer skin tones and the rest will suit everybody. The Iconic Redemption
palettes are definitely worth the price if you get them on discount. A lot of
palettes mess up in the matte eye shadows but Makeup Revolution got it right.
The shades and textures are smooth and easy to work with.
