Just Herbs Products – My Thoughts

Just Herbs has gained a lot of popularity in 2014, and that is the reason why I decided to try out some of their products. I placed my order from the Just Herbs website and I had to pay Rs.50 for shipping since my order did not meet the minimum amount for free shipping. I got my order delivered to Mumbai in 6 days. Hope you don’t mind the lengthy post, sorry!
Apart from their website, you can find Just Herbs products at Flipkart, Nykaa, Amazon, Luxola . Their products are all natural ayurvedic pdts, free from petrochemicals, parabens, SLS/SLES PEG/PPG, Genetically modified ingredients(GMO) and other synthetic ingredients

You can WhatsApp Just Herbs on +91 8054948180 to get a consultation on what products you need to use. That's how they operate actually, the treatments are bespoke according to your skin type. However, I don't think that's of much use because they recommended me the same products when my skin was combination & when it was normal. I also told them that I do not have any acne problems, still they recommended me products like "anti blemish gel" both times ! That's why I decided to ignore their consultation & buy products I needed :)
Now, moving onto the reviews.....

Just Herbs Silksplash Neem-Orange Rehydrant Face Wash Bhringraj Tail Review

Just Herbs Silksplash Neem-Orange Rehydrant Face Wash:
An ideal rehydrant foaming Ayurvedic cleanser with the natural goodness of neem, Chandan(sandal wood) and honey. It  gently removes the last traces of dust, grime and make-up residue, yet retaining the inherent moisture of the skin. While Sandal Wood is moisturising and anti-inflammatory, Calendula acts as natural antiseptic and antibacterial agent with sun radiation protective properties. Aloe Vera, Honey and Orange peel deeply moisturize leaving the skin with an amazing sense of freshness and a velvety sheen all day long.

Review: When I received this cleanser, a lot of product had leaked out. After one month of usage, its pump had completely broken. Also, the stickers on its body have been disintegrating as you can see from the pics, which makes it incredibly inconvenient to use. It smells like fevicol to me, but not as strong. It’s a slightly thick gel cleanser. At first, I felt its just like any normal cleanser. Then after 2 months of using this, I had to use a non-herbal cleanser, the L’Oreal Hydra Fresh one once and I could realize the difference. Silksplash is very very gentle compared to other cleansers. It doesn’t make the skin feel dry or irritated post wash. I use it to cleanse my face & on the days when I wear makeup, I use to get rid of the residue of makeup cleanser. It does not prevent my skin from getting pimples.
Rating: 3/5
Because of the bad quality of packaging I won’t be repurchasing it, but if you’re in search of a mild cleanser, this is a good option to try out.

Just Herbs Silksplash Neem-Orange Rehydrant Face Wash Bhringraj Tail Review

Just Herbs Bhringraj Tail:
(The product was nearly finished when I took pictures, the actual oil looks yellow in the bottle)
An ancient formulation of therapeutic herbs which help invigorate and revitalize the scalp thus stimulating the hair follicles for more healthy new growth of hair. Hot oil deep conditioning treatment with this oil helps prevent hair fall, dandruff and delays greying. It also helps hair becoming naturally black and luminously shiny. An excellent tonic for the Nervous System, it also promotes sound sleep

Review: I bought this oil because I am suffering from heavy hairfall, also the texture of my hair had gotten quite dry and rough. I did not expect this to perform miracles, but I hoped that it would do either of the two- reduce hair fall or improve hair condition. Unfortunately, it was not able to do either. I warmed this up before use as per the instructions & applied it to my scalp. Its not very thick, and after heating, it feels thinner. Post washing, my hair felt little drier than before. It did not promote hair growth either. After using it 6-7 times for a month I was not happy with the results so I gave it to my sister who has little hairfall. It did not help her either. Overall, I am not impressed with this product, it literally does nothing for the hair. It does not “Deep Condition” as per claims.
Rating: 1/5
 Pricey, ineffective, not recommended.

Review: I received a sample size of this product with my purchase. Like all herbal shampoos, it is thick. I have been using it for a month and a half & I am not impressed. It leaves my hair drier than before & does not get rid of any hair oil applied. I have applied it 3-4 times during a hair wash still it did not remove the hair oil, 50% of the oil was still there on my hair.
Rating: 1/5
Pricey, does not clean off hair oil, makes hair drier, not recommended

Review: I received a sample size of this product with my purchase. It’s a mud mask as you can see and dries very quickly on the face. I’d recommend working on one area of the face at a time. It has a lovely rose scent. It cleans up the face, leaves it soft and gives a soft glow for few hours. I haven’t noticed any tan reduction, but I couldn’t use it every week because its too drying. Dry patches are noticeable after washing this mask off. It makes blemishes drier & smaller in appearance, but doesn't get rid of them. My skin drinks up moisturizer quickly post this mask
Rating: 4/5
Effective for deep cleaning the skin, though not as good as other masks that I’ve used. Still, its good for the price it retails at. Since its very drying & meant for tan removal, its best not to use it much in winters. Recommended, if you’re in need of an all-natural, deep cleansing mask.

*I always exfoliate my face for 5 min before applying a face mask. I use a scrub from St.Ives.

I really appreciate Just Herbs' efforts to be completely natural. Although some of their products are lackluster, it is common in any brand! I would really love it if they revamped their packaging, that is the only thing preventing me from repurchasing their products or trying any new ones. They claim to be a luxury brand & therefore I feel that packaging plays a major role. I'm also not thrilled about them for shoving products & not providing a proper consultation, hope they'll improve that aspect as well!

St. Ives Fresh Skin Invigorating Apricot Scrub - Review, Where to buy, Price in India

This is the best scrub, ever!

Ok, I don’t have much to compare the St. Ives Apricot Scrub to. I have just used the old Neutrogena Deep Clean Daily Scrub(now discontinued) & its replacement- NeutrogenaBlackhead Eliminating Deep Clean Daily Scrub. The former(older one) was very effective at scrubbing the face clean but used to leave my face dry, the later(newer one) has very tiny granules that caress & gently exfoliate your face. It is a great daily scrub as it is non-abrasive & doesn’t strip the skin of moisture, but doesn’t give the same effect as a scrub with coarse granules. The St. Ives Apricot Scrub is quite different, and unique.

St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub Review Where to buy Price in India

Price: Rs.450/ $7
Qty: 170g
Availability: Amazon

The granules of the St. Ives Apricot Scrub are just right – coarse yet gentle, probably because of the small granule size. It never strips moisture from my face. I love using it before applying face masks & I’ve observed that my face mask works more effectively when this is used beforehand. Every time I scrub my face with the St. Ives Apricot Scrub, my skin feels like it is indeed getting exfoliated. I've seen a reduction in blackheads, but they don't completely disappear. I use a gentle pressure over the scrub when I’m using it to, well, scrub my face. Always use the gentlest pressure with such scrubs, there’s no point in getting aggressive with it, you’ll only hurt your face.

I don’t like using the St. Ives Apricot Scrub during winters when my skin is dry and the climate is dry as well. I don’t have a problem using it in Mumbai because of the humidity, but for other places I prefer to use the Neutrogena Blackhead Eliminating Scrub instead of this in winters, its just my preference that I don’t like to scrub my skin much when its dry. I know exfoliation can get rid of dry patches etc. but its just not my cup of tea. The St. Ives Apricot Scrub claims to improve skin texture, but I don’t use it 3-4 times a week as suggested. Again, its my personal preference that I like to exfoliate once a week.

Once a week(when my skin isn’t dry), I like to take a small pea sized amount of the St. Ives Apricot Scrub and scrub my face gently. I take just a bit more product for my face(if needed) & neck. I go over my face & neck in circular motion for 5-10min, using the gentlest pressure. I need to keep wetting the tips of my fingers as the scrub gets dry on the face after a while. Then I wash it off & apply my mask. I think the St. Ives Apricot Scrub will suit all skin types, since it doesn’t strip skin of moisture, dry skin won’t get drier & oily skin won’t get oilier.

Cheap & Chic : Nail Polish Remover Wipes from eBay

Have you ever tried nail polish remover wipes/pads? They are awesome! A must-have for any girl, really. Its literally one swipe & whoosh, your nails are clean of any nail polish. They also contain oil so you can condition your nails while cleaning them. Its such a refreshing feeling, compared to using Nail Polish removing liquids, because even though they are acetone free, my nails feel dry after using them. I first heard about these from my sister, she had gotten a box of just for Rs.50. But those were not available anywhere so I searched online & I found wipes from Bare Essentials but I was not willing to pay Rs.140 for them when I knew that the real cost is much cheaper. So ultimately, I found a good deal on eBay and decided to go ahead with it. I’m very happy with my purchase, these nail polish remover wipes are cheap and effective!  They are very thin wipes/pads that remove + condition the nails. They leave your nails oily, but its okay, it can be washed off. I won't really call the effect of the oil conditioning though. One wipe/pad is good enough for 5 nails. The only time I faced a problem was when I was trying to remove glitter polishes, I needed one wipe/pad per nail in this case.

Price : Rs.155 for 3 boxes, number of wipes/pads in each box is not mentioned. They are available in a variety of flavors but you can't select the flavors, they are randomly given.
Its Acetone & Toluene free

The one reason you really need nail polish remover wipes is because they are a great quick fix and a great alternative to carrying a bottle of polish remover and cotton balls.

I definitely recommend all of you to try them out, they make life so simple!

Update : they are also available on Shop Clues

Rave- The Body Shop Face and Body Brush Review

Hi there! Its been a while since my last post, no ?! I would have posted sooner, but, I fell sick :( With swine flu reaching pandemic levels I was terrified! Thankfully, it was just a throat infection with cold, something I suffer from frequently when the weather changes. Then I had to rush to college (over 300kms far from Pune) for an exam, when I finally got back to Pune, it was effing raining…pouring actually! The temperature had dropped down to like 15C, which only meant that if I didn’t bundle myself up I would fall sick, again. Sigh, just when Pune was getting warmer. Watching the news made me realize there is a problem in many places in India and the temperatures are dropping rapidly. Well, I hope that when you’re reading this post, you’re enjoying a warm and crisp weather with a light cool breeze!

The Body Shop Face and Body Brush Review India

Today’s product is something that’s been in a happy place in my vanity case for a long time. I think I got it in Aug-2013 so a good 1.5 years and its still in use, in the same condition as the day it was bought.

Price: Rs.995/~$16
Availability: The Body Shop

Product description

Perfect for applying loose powder or bronzer over face, neck and décolletage.
• Super-soft synthetic hair
• Cruelty-free

My experience with The Body Shop Face & Body Brush:

It took a certain amount of cheek to buy this brush. Back then, it costed Rs.810 and I got it for 10% Off, so I paid Rs.729 for it. Which was OK, considering it is a cruelty free makeup brush. But I was just starting out in makeup and the max I’d spend for it was Rs.550. Still, I felt so giddy once I got it! It was the first proper face makeup tool I had, and it is so worth the money I spent. It has a lovely black body and silver ferrule which gives it a professional look. The body has the brush name and that has not faded off even after such a long time!

The Body Shop Face & Body Brush sufficiently large and fluffy, not as flared out as a rounded brush, obviously. When I first used it underneath my eyes, it felt sharp, like it was poking the skin actually, but on the rest of my face it felt super soft. But once I washed it, it was soft and smooth in any way I used it on my face. It’s a tapered powder brush, and I’m so attuned to using it that I find it more comfortable than a rounded powder brush. It always gives the perfect dusting of powder on my face. It’s a little tricky to use with loose powder given its shape, but after a couple of tries, I got a hang of it. The Face & Body Brush is super soft, softer than the Real Techniques’ brushes that I own, in fact, its synthetic bristles feel superior to those of Real Techniques’ brushes on the face.

I’ve owned it for 1.5 years and it shed just one hair at the time of first wash. Thereafter, it has never shed or even discolored. It hasn’t lost its shape either, I am very careful of how I wash my brushes. The only minor hitch in the Face & Body Brush is that it takes a long time to dry, longer than the very dense Real Techniques Blush brush, probably because of its different shape. I love the tapered shape because it makes it easier to reach all the parts of the face, its perfect for dabbing powder under the eye. It may seem small to use for face but its not, I’ve also used it on my sis, who has a larger face and it was quite convenient.

You can see from the pics that the Face & Body Brush can stand on its own, which is a neat little bonus! This is supposedly good for bronzer, but I think a thicker brush with shorter bristles would be more appropriate for that, this would be floppy for that purpose.

Overall verdict: 5/5

Yes, The Body Shop Face & Body Brush is insanely expensive now, but if you’re in need of an excellent, long lasting powder brush, I would suggest you wait till this goes on sale. Currently, if you buy any 4 TBS products from their site, you get 30% on each product, which means it can be yours for Rs.700…that is a great deal! I love The Body Shop Face & Body Brush and I don’t see myself buying another powder brush for a long time!

Iraya Kumkumadi Facial Oil Review : Dupe of Kama Ayurveda Kumkumadi Miraculous Beauty Fluid ?

I purchased the Iraya Kumkumadi Facial oil from Jabong when it was on sale. Last year was the year of facial oils and I was very interested to try them out for myself. However, they are freaking expensive. Even then, I was ready to shell out two grand on one of them before I saw this on sale (for Rs.795) at Jabong. Now Jabong doesn’t list many details about any of their products, but this had natural written in the description and also had an all-natural ingredient list. So I took the plunge and decided to buy it, though I haven’t seen any reviews on this product. I have used it for roughly two months.
