Nails! ~ 3 Budget Friendly Glitter Nail Enamels for NYE !!!! ~

*UPDATE: mybeautyexpress is now crazybeautyland.blogspot.com

Tis the season to wear glitter! December is everyone’s favourite month of the year isn’t it? Holidays, decorations, lights, pleasant weather… all things to enjoy. I like these vacations more than summer vacations because of the weather. At this time of the year, in Mumbai, its just starting to get cold, its quite lovely and I enjoy going out everyday. My skin is at its best, aka normal. In contrast, summers are hot and the sun is unforgiving. I sweat all the time within my house also. But summer has its benefits too, like bright colors!

December has festivals and also signals the end of an year, which means parties and celebrations. What is your must-have accessory for celebrations? Mine is glitter. Glitter instantly adds more statement to your look, it is also absolutely fun to play around with.

There is probably no easier way to incorporate glitter in your look, than by adding it to your nails. Its simple and quickest to do(and its also a pain to remove, but there is an easy method).

I picked up 3 affordable glitter nail polishes that stood out for me this year. Of course there are more than just three released this year, but these ones are easily accessible and economical, compared to the rest. I’ve decided to do mini reviews and comparisons, just for you!

You can buy these online from Nykaa
See my shopping experience with Nykaa HERE

One notation to keep in mind: Ease of removal:- 1 indicates that the nail polish is easy to remove, like any other nail polish, 5 indicates its difficult to remove and requires the foil method.

You can zoom the photos upto 60 times to see the nail polish more clearly. (you will end up seeing my dry cuticles as well, but that’s what happens when you continuously swatch nail polishes >.<)

Starting with the cheapest of the lot:

1.Maybelline Color Show Nail Enamel in Velvet Wine:-

Maybelline Color Show Nail Enamel in Velvet Wine Review

Cost: Rs.75

Color: this is not a color I’d normally pick, but I was shopping online so you can understand. Velvet Wine seems like that “rani pink” which is over used by a lot of people and a color that I personally hate for nails but its actually a deep fuchsia color with silver and fuchsia shimmer. Two coats makes the color even more deep, leaning towards raspberry pink. The color is between deep fuchsia and raspberry. It’s the perfect color to wear with indian traditional wear, it will complement Indian attires and colors beautifully. I have used two coats for the swatches.

I liked that the vibrancy and shineyness of the nail polish stayed the same for the entire time I wore it, even after 5 days of wearing it, it looked freshly put! I experienced tip fading only on the third day, and I wore it without a top coat. But it made the whites of my nails yellow, and it has a strong nail lacquer odour.

Ease of removal: 1/5. It removes easily and does not stain nails.

Overall rating: 4/5.

2. Rimmel Lasting Finish in Disco Ball (500)

Rimmel Lasting Finish in Disco Ball (500) Review

Cost: Rs.145

Color: Unlike Velvet Wine this one has a clear base which contains blue and silver hexagonal glitters and smaller silver circle & hexagonal glitter. As you can see from the photos its quite intensely packed with glitter. I used three coats on all nails.

When a nail polish has a clear base, you can let your imagination run wild and try any color underneath it, or wear it as it is. I tried it over a bright orange-red color and black. It looks really good over black but I like the way how it turned out over red as well. I’d wear it over red for an afternoon party and over black for a night time party.

It has a very strong and intense smell so if you have a sensitive nose, you may want to skip this.

Ease of removal: 3/5

Overall Verdict: 3/5

3. Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear in Rockstar Pink

Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear in Rockstar Pink Review

Cost: Rs.250

Color: This one also has a clear base with loads and loads of blue, red, purple and silver glitter, even I would name this combination of colors Rockstar Pink! The glitter is very, very densely packed and easily transfers on nails and it was hard to make out if the glitter was circular or hexagonal but I think it is hexagonal. I used two coats for all nail swatches. Compared to Disco Ball this has way more glitter.

Since this one already has red glitter I used this over a yellow nail polish to see how it looks paired with neonish colors and over a black nail polish. You can see from the swatches that it holds its own even when swatched over other nail polishes. You can wear this without any base color! Disco Ball without any base leaves a lot to be desired, imo.

I had some difficulty during application, the brush is thin and does not fan out, so I had to work in small sections on my nail. The nail polish dried up fast, this can lead to patchy application but since its glitter you can’t make that out.

Ease of removal: 5/5. I did not use the foil method to remove it but its best to remove that way otherwise you end up with glitter particles over your finger, its quite messy.

Overall Verdict: 4/5.

Which one do you like?

One advice: Don’t continuously swatch glitter nail polishes.

Another advice: Patience is key, both while applying and removing glitter nail enamels

And… I love glitter ball nails!

If I had to recommend only one out of the three I’ve mentioned here, it would be Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Rockstar Pink, because it has a lot of glitter and is quicker because it doesn’t really need a base color. Since we are talking bases, I love this one over yellow and I think this would look gorgeous over white!

I hope you found this post helpful =)

Have A Glittery New Year Everyone!
